Excellent, Straightforward Information about Modern Bariatric Surgery September 4, 2009 R. Walden (Reno, NV) I purchased this book recently because I am in the early stages of my own personal journey with bariatric surgery. I am truly fortunate to live in Reno, and have Dr. Sasse as my surgeon. After reading this comprehensive overview of all of the current options and choices available to those who are considering bariatric surgery, I am confident in my choice of procedures, and certain that I have made the best choice possible in physicians. The writing, although full of technical terms and research statistics, is a clear, non-biased read. I highly recommend this guide to anyone considering weight-loss surgery. After reading Dr. Sasse's book, you will know what to expect, what questions to ask, and whether or not this type of surgery is the right choice for you.
Highly recommended reading for anyone considering the option of bariatric surgery July 10, 2009 Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Obesity is a hazard that impairs and puts at hazard the lives of hundreds of thousands of people throughout the United States. It has also given birth to a multi-billion dollar industry addressing the problems of obesity through legions of diet books, programs, exercises, equipment, medication, and surgeries. That's why "Outpatient Weight-Loss Surgery: Safe And Successful Weight Loss With Modern Bariatric Surgery" by Dr. Kent Sasse (a nationally recognized authority on surgical weight-loss procedures) is such a welcome and addition to personal community library Health & Medicine reference collections. Dr. Sasse provides the reader with an informed and comprehensive guide to every aspect of bariatric surgery including what it is, how it works, recovery, and appropriate follow-up. Of special note is what Dr. Sasse advises on avoiding common problems such as leakage, dehydration, and ulceration. Simply stated, "Outpatient Weight-Loss Surgery" is critically important and highly recommended reading for anyone considering the option of bariatric surgery as a medical response to their condition of morbid obesity.

An excellent book! All you need to know before, during and after WLS! June 18, 2009 D. Lim 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have been involved in the field of bariatric research for over 3 years and have found this book to be an excellent resource for me as a researcher and for anyone considering WLS surgery. Dr. Sasse has added his own unique experience, wonderful insights and knowledge to the world of WLS. This very informative book is an easy read and answers all the questions one may have on WLS. Outpatient Weight Loss Surgery is a must have if you are considering Bariatric Surgery. It will change your life!
A valuable addition to the WLS library June 9, 2009 Biblioholic Beth (Portland, Oregon USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
One of the newest weight-loss surgery books on the market is Outpatient Weight-Loss Surgery by Dr. Kent Sasse. With weight-loss surgery (WLS) becoming more and more common, many people who might never have considered it in the past are beginning to explore their options. Therefore, having a wealth of information available to all who may be interested is important.
Dr. Sasse has written an informative and fairly thorough book explaining the process for getting WLS, starting with how to evaluate whether or not you are a good candidate and going all the way through to what problems to be aware of after the surgery is complete. There is even a specific section on the WLS options offered in Mexico and what to think carefully about before deciding to have it done there.
There is a lot of good data, and it all appears to be current research. I know for myself, the thought of having WLS on an outpatient basis was not something I was familiar with. Of course, anyone interested in the possibility of having this surgery on an outpatient basis will need to research whether it is available in their area and, more importantly, whether or not their insurance will cover it.
The only issue I had with the book may be a minor one for others, but it often felt like I was reading an expanded version of an advertising brochure for Dr. Sasse's company. His company iMetabolic (International Bariatric Institute) is mentioned frequently in the book - frequently enough that it was somewhat off-putting. I'm not a huge fan of advertising one's own company within a book unless the book is specifically about that company. However, while this is a huge gripe for me, it may be less so for others, and it certainly shouldn't be the deciding factor with regards to how helpful the book may be for you.
Overall, it is easy to read, clear and gives some great information for anyone considering Weight Loss Surgery (or for anyone with a loved one who may benefit). It is certainly worth taking the time to read, and for anyone who lives in an area where outpatient WLS is an option, then this book may help you tremendously!
